چکیده

We describe a patient who presented with headaches and vomiting. A computerised tomogram (CT) of brain failed to demonstrate bilateral subdural collections subsequently shown on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This case illustrates that an essentially normal CT scan does not always exclude significant intracranial pathology. CASE REPORT A 44 year old female presented with a four month history of headaches and vomiting. No abnormality was detected on neurological examination and routine investigations were normal. A CT scan of brain was performed before and after intravenous contrast. No focal abnormality was demonstrated but there was poor visualisation of the third ventricle and basal cisterns (fig 1). In particular the left ambient cistern was completely obscured a sign suggestive of supratentorial pathology. In view of these findings the possibility of a low grade infiltrating lesion such as a glioma within the basal ganglia was considered, and the patient was referred for magnetic resonance imaging. Axial T2-weighted MRI scans demonstrated the presence of significant chronic bilateral subdural collections which were invisible on the axial CT scan (fig 2a & b). Sagittal TI-weighted images showed tonsillar herniation below the level ofthe foramen :s,' '1 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~.

Correlation between level of consciousness and some cT findings in chronic subdural hematoma

There is little information concerning the correlation between clinical and CT findings in chronic subdural hematoma . This study was performed on 69 hematoma patients to find correlations between CT findings and GCS. Ninety one percent of patients were male and 9℅ were female. The average age was 63. In 87℅ of cases, the lesions was unilateral and in the remaining 13℅ , it was bilateral. The r...

Differentiation between meningeal fibrosis and chronic subdural hematoma after ventricular shunting: value of enhanced CT and MR scans.

Unenhanced CT in four patients with long-standing ventricular shunts demonstrated bilateral low-density extraaxial collections that were indistinguishable from chronic subdural hematomas. After administration of contrast material, however, there was marked enhancement of the collections as well as prominent paratentorial and parafalcial enhancement. MR imaging, performed in three patients, demo...

Findings of Cerebral CT-scan in Car Accident Patients

ABSTRACT Trauma is the most common reason of death in 1-44 years olds. In patients with multiple rtrauma, the head is the most common involved part . Car accident is the most common cause of head injury in adults. The importance of computed tomography (CT) in diagnosis of brain trauma is well estabilished and CT of the brain is a choice method. A descriptive study was carried out in 880 patie...

Is a negative cranial CT-scan adequate to support a diagnosis of pseudotumor cerebri

In a patient with features indicating the presence of pseudotumor cerebri, a negative cranial CT-scan is not adequate to rule out less benign pathology and an MRI of brain should be performed. In this study, a 10-year old boy with daily headaches for one month and diplopia for one week was found to have a partial abducens palsy and bilateral papilledema; otherwise, his examination was normal. A...
